Getting a key file from the Keys Database

To get the key used to encrypt a file, follow these steps:

  • In the Windows Explorer, right click over the encrypted file (which has the suffix ".eaes")
  • Choose the option "EAESCrypt" and then "Get the key file"

EAESCrypt will get the key from the Keys Database and save it in a file with the suffix ".eaes-key". The file name will be its own identifier (in the standard format of the UUID).

The key file can then be safely saved in an external media, and after imported back into the Keys Database or sent to another user or computer. Refer to the section "Inserting a key" for more information about inserting a key from a key file into the Keys Database.

The exported key still remains in the Keys Database. Refer to the section Removing a key for more information about removing a key from the Keys Database
