What is EAESCrypt

EAEScrypt is a utility that is designed to protect sensitive data using secure encryption. With it it's possible to protect your files and folders in a quick and easy way.

It uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) as published by the Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS PUBS) and issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The official version of AES allows only 128-bit, 192-bit or 256-bit keys, and EAESCrypt is fully compliant with it when using these values. But EAESCrypt goes beyond the officially defined values ​​and use keys of any size between 128 and 2048 bits. The longer is the key, the safer is the algorithm.

EAESCrypt is a FREE software. Its source code is freely available for inspection and use, under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License.

EAESCrypt is a command line utility. The instaler for Windows 7 provides some basic functionality in the context menu for the files in Windows Explorer, to encrypt and decrypt them, as well as to manage the encryption keys.

EAESCryip is NOT hosted in SourceForge because this host is subject to the legislation of the United States, which restricts the use of encryption algorithms.

The Brazilian laws don't restrict the use of cryptographic algorithms. If you do not live in Brazil, refer to the legal notice to see if you are eligible to get EAESCrypt.

Compatibility with previous versions

Because of the changes made in the encryption algorithm, the files generated in previous versions are NOT COMPATIBLE with this version of EAESCrypt. It means that it will not be able to decrypt files generated by versions older than 2.00.

If you have files encrypted with previous versions of EAESCrypt, you must install the Compatibility Package, that provides a function to decrypt older files. Refer to the Users Manual at the documentation section for more information about the compatibility package.

Windows 7 instalation

This version of EAESCrypt comes with a package that allows you to install it on a computer with Windows 7 operating system. It also works fine for the Windows 8 operating system.

The installer doesn't work for operating systems previous to Windows 7 (e.g. Windows XP).
